DIY Pool Fence item callback for nationwide hardware chain’s goods-G8Safe Pool Latches

If you have begun a DIY Pool Fence job over the last couple of months, then you may wish to double check where you got your products from, and if they belong to the most current recall issued by one of Australia’s biggest hardware chains in April 2018. Although DIY Frameless glass  and Absolut do not use or stock the recalled products, we want to share the news so if you have recently put in a G8Safe latch, you can make sure you have it switched out immediately.
The item recall is issued for G8Safe Pool Latches manufactured by SafeTech Hardware Australia Pty.  This national recall was reported by Choice reported because the latch does not comply with Australian safety standards.
The reason? Since these latches can be locked in a manner that the locking pin continues to be in an open position. This signifies that it can in fact be ‘locked open’ and for that reason anyone can enter into the pool area as the latch will certainly not automatically close after you.
As reported by Choice:

” Consumers should immediately disable the key lock mechanism by removing the key from the striker, or [fill] the key hole with a waterproof adhesive,”

“” This is a very serious safety issue…. so I urge all owners and residents of properties with pools to … take urgent action.”.

(David Hillyard, commissioner of Consumer Protection)
The recall is for a range of the SafeTech and G8Safe items, including:

  • SafeTech Top Pull Pool Gate Latch (Key Lockable).
  • G8Safe Top Pull Pool Gate Latch (Key Lockable).
  • SafeTech TriLatch (Key Lockable).
  • G8Safe TriLatch (Key Lockable).

In addition to the kits:

  • SafeTech Trade Packs (Key Lockable).
  • G8Safe Megapack (Key Lockable).

In case you have one of these products, What exactly should you do?

The recall is advising that Customers should “immediately disable the key lock mechanism by removing the key from the striker or fill in the key hole with a waterproof adhesive”.
The fact this recall has occured explains clear reasons why we have these pool safety standards, in addition to why Absolut and DIY Frameless glass only stocks premium products which fully adhere to these standards.
